Insulin Syringe Units Converter
Every other calculator on this site quietly depends on one fixed relationship: a U-100 insulin syringe puts 100 unit marks across 1 millilitre, for any liquid. This page is that relationship on its own — convert a volume to units, a unit reading back to a volume, and see the marks laid out on a barrel.
A dose in mg or mcg is one more step: it also needs a concentration, because units measure volume, not mass. The second tab below covers that — give it a vial size and water volume and it converts an amount into units directly.
The math, before you use the tool

- units = mL × 100 [U-100: 100 marks = 1 mL]

- mL = units ÷ 100
- A dose in mg or mcg
- needs a concentration first — mg/mL = vial (mg) ÷ water (mL)
The first two lines are fixed and true for any U-100 syringe, regardless of what is drawn into it. The third line is where most confusion actually lives — a unit count on its own never describes an amount of anything until you know the concentration it was read at.
Read this before you use the calculator
This tool performs unit arithmetic on numbers you enter, and nothing else. It is not medical advice, it does not recommend a dose, and it is not a suggestion that you use any compound. Most of the peptides these calculators get used with are not FDA-approved for the purposes they are marketed for, are sold through a grey market where purity and labelling are not guaranteed, and many are prohibited in tested sport — check yours with the WADA prohibited-status checker. Any decision to use a compound, and any amount, must come from a licensed clinician who knows your history. Misreading mL for units, or the reverse, is a hundred-fold error and the single most common way a syringe reading goes wrong — always confirm which scale you are looking at.

- 1 mL is equal to how many units on an insulin syringe?
- 100 units. A U-100 syringe is graduated so that 100 international units span exactly 1 millilitre, which makes one unit mark 0.01 mL. That ratio is fixed for any U-100 syringe and any liquid drawn into it — it does not depend on what is in the barrel.
- How do you read the units on an insulin syringe?
- The barrel is printed with a scale from 0 to 100, usually with a numbered line every 10 units and a shorter tick every 1 or 2 units depending on the syringe size (a 0.3 mL or 0.5 mL 'low-dose' syringe has the same 100-unit scale compressed into a smaller barrel, so its ticks are finer). Draw the plunger until its front edge lines up with the mark you want, holding the syringe at eye level to avoid a parallax error. The number of units tells you a volume — 0.01 mL per unit — not an amount of anything dissolved in that volume.
- How much is 2.5 mg in a syringe?
- It depends entirely on the concentration, and there is no single answer without one. At 2.5 mg/mL, 2.5 mg is the full 1 mL barrel — 100 units. At 5 mg/mL, the same 2.5 mg is half that — 50 units. - Is 1 unit the same as 1 mL?
- No — this is the single most common mix-up in reading a syringe. 1 unit is 0.01 mL; 1 mL is 100 units. Confusing the two is a hundred-fold error, which on an insulin-style syringe is immediately obvious (100 mL does not fit in a 1 mL barrel), but the same confusion applied to a smaller sub-unit reading is easy to miss.
- What does U-100 mean on a syringe?
- It is the syringe's graduation standard: 100 units per millilitre. It comes from insulin, historically supplied at 100 international units per mL, and the barrel scale was built around that. Peptide dosing has nothing to do with insulin units of potency — the syringe is simply a common, finely graduated 1 mL container, and 'units' here means a volume reading, not a drug-specific dose.
- Does this converter tell me how much of a peptide to draw?
- No. It converts between a volume in millilitres and a reading in U-100 units, and — in the 'Concentration' tab — between an amount in mg/mcg and units once you supply a vial size and water volume. It never proposes a dose, every field starts blank, and nothing here is medical advice. Any decision about an amount belongs with a licensed clinician.
